News & updates
Alwin here, of Collectorz.com, with our December 2011 Newsletter.
But before I tell you about our current projects…
The entire Collectorz.com team (AJ, Bernard, Chris, Mark, Martin, Patrick, Pim, Robbert, Ronald, Rowdy, Sonny, Sven, Syts and Alwin) wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2012!!
(with lots of CDs, DVDs, books, comics & games)!
Here’s our Happy Holidays card and some pics from our CLZ XMAS party.
Now, what’s cooking at the CLZ HQ these days?
… and more importantly, what *will* be cooking in 2012?
Movie Collector 8 for Mac OS X
It’s very close now, only 4 days to go. On December 27, we will release version 8 of Movie Collector for Mac OS X. A huge upgrade, that will finally bring all new automatic data for movies and TV series to the Mac edition.
But that’s not all: version 8 is a complete “rewrite from scratch”, bringing many new features (Find Cover, Cover Flow, etc…), plus a more Mac-like user interface and a completely new set of toolbar icons.
Yes, we finally got rid of the Windows 95 look! 🙂
Check out the new look and features on the special Movie Collector for Mac Preview page.
Of course, the new look will also be brought to the current Comic Collector for Mac and the upcoming major upgrades of Book and Music Collector!

Adding, Editing and Barcode Scanning for the CLZ mobile apps
This is currently the main project of our “all things mobile” programmer Pim.
Making the CLZ mobile apps into fully stand-alone products, that allow the adding of new items (by title and by scanning barcodes with the camera) and the editing of personal data like the Wish List status, Rating and Notes.
This is a big project by itself (remember that we have 15 mobile apps …). But it becomes huge once you realize that with editing capabilities on the mobile side, most users will want to sync those edits back to the desktop side (and thus requires modifications to all 9 of our desktop editions…)
At the moment Pim is using CLZ Comics for iPad as a test-case. He already created a functional Add Comics Automatically screen, letting you add by series *and* by scanning barcodes with the iPad 2 camera. Pretty cool!
I will keep you posted on our progress.
Collectorz.com Connect
Connect is becoming very popular. Many users of our Windows and Mac editions are now using Connect as an easy way to publish, check and show off their collection in a nice online website. But we’re also seeing more and more new users opting to use Connect only, as a fully stand-alone online collection cataloging and sharing tool.
The increased popularity of Connect means that it will be the main focus of our web-development guys Robbert and Sven in 2012.
They are currently updating the look of all Connect pages. Here’s some examples of the new design. Check out the new movie details page, the new book details page and the new user home page.
More cosmetic updates and new features to come in 2012!
