Our web-team has been working on this for a long time, but it is now LIVE: a new search engine for Artist/Title searches in our Core online music database and Discogs. An engine that is both better and much, much faster!
And the good news is: these are all “server-side” changes, which means you don’t need to update your Music Collector software, CLZ Music app or Music Connect web-app. Everyone can now instantly enjoy the benefits, no matter which version of the software you have :-).
Faster
We developed a new search engine for handling artist/title searches, for both our own Core online CD database and our mirror of the Discogs database. This new engine is running on its’ own dedicated server, so it’s superfast.
Also, it uses a combined search index for both Core and Discogs, so it needs to do only one search action to produce the combined results list.
The result of this is instantly noticeable when searching by Artist/Title in your Add Albums screen: results will be returned much, much faster than before, almost instantly.
The new engine not only makes your searches faster, but at the same time it only solves all server performance problems the Core server has had in the past few months, especially on Saturday and Sundays.
Better
Next to the speed improvements, the new search engine also gives you better search results, that are more focussed, less fuzzy.
It will only show albums containing ALL your entered artist and title “words” (as opposed to the old search that gave you albums that matched ANY or your search term words).
In practice, you will now get less search results that exactly match what you were looking for. However, the new engine is more sensitive to typos, so one incorrectly entered word may cause no results to be returned at all.
